The secret to good betting and wagering is to know your favored horse well and the jockey who is riding him that day! Knowing your jockeys well is as important as knowing your equine runners. With the end of 2013 racing season; the top 3 jockeys are Javier Castellano, Joel Rosario and John R. Velazquez.
Javier Castellano - December 13, 2013 Castellano broke “Single Season earning record” previously set by jockey Roman Dominguez; who took a forced retirement due to an injury. The record that was standing at 25,634,852 USD was re- established by the Venezuela native at 26,061,862 USD. Javier Castellano, age 36 started riding in 1996 and 2013 has been his year so to say!
“Javier is the complete package, He’s pretty versatile as a rider; he’s tactical and can adapt to any situation on the racetrack” – Matt Muzikar to Forbes.com
His 2013 stats include:
Starts: 1617
Win: 362
Place: 294
Show: 220
Joel Rosario – As the Gulfstream Derby season set off with full swing in Jan 1, 2014; General a Rod trained by Michael J. Maker and rode by Jockey Joel Rosario out of sire Roman Ruler and Dynamite Eyes took the 100,000 USD “Gulfstream Park Derby” title home. Rosario grabbed his third win riding the 3 year old General a Rod making his fourth win on the Gulfstream card. A well experienced Rosario said; "When I got to the horse in front, he just kind of waited a little bit, "He didn't want to go by, but the other horse was running pretty good, too, I thought I had a little more left when I asked him, but he did the job. I think he's still learning now, so going forward he'll be even better." - BloodHorse.com
His 2013 Stats include:
Starts: 1295
Win: 275
Place: 218
Show: 187
John Velazquez (my personal favorite) – was announced the “North America’s all time leading money earning rider Oct 13”- BloodHorse.com. He overcame the Pat Day’s record and established his name at 297,922,320 USD career earning.
"It's something that happened to happen, and I'm glad it happened," Velazquez said.” - BloodHorse.com
As early as July, Velazquez had achieved his 5,000th career victory. He started riding in the United States in the year 1990. Claiming 22 New York Racing Association events, the Carolina born won the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Jockey in 2004 and 2005. In 2001 he won the Kentucky Derby aboard Animal Kingdom. A race that can be hardly ever forgotten!
His 2013 stats include:
Starts: 929
Win: 178
Place: 160
Show: 134
The others two jockeys following 5th and 6th close behind are: Rafael Bejarano and Irad Ortiz, Jr.
As professional jockeys train harder this year, I too am geared up for the action at the fantasy horse racing tracks, practicing hard – I hope to be the next leading jockey on their leader board! Eagerly waiting for their new game version only at http://www.horseracegame.com/

Santa Anita Park dazzles away while Meadowlands Racetrack records the coldest night - 2014
My first blog of the year – dedicated to two of my favored race
tracks; Santa Anita Park and Meadowlands Racetracks.
With the 77th opening of the spectacular Santa Anita Park four days after the
75-year old Belfair Hollywood Park
closed its doors for fans; over 30,000 of them literally marched to Arcadia on
Dec 26th, 2013. The Chandelier Room dazzled and shined where horse
racing patriots were offered champagne while they enjoyed the exclusivity of
the clubhouse! Keith Brackpool, the chairman of Santa Anita Park claimed that
it was “work –in –progress”... well, if this is “work-in-progress” what I
wonder will the final racetrack be like?
As the iconic clubhouse wore a 15 million dollar renovation;
the weather god smiled upon with blue skies and a clear view of the mountains.
What more could a true horse racing want…this was heaven on earth!
Looking forward to a great season of horseracing – all eyes
on January 25, 2014 races:

Meadowlands Racetracks, New Jersey was the place to be as it
recorded one the coldest nights on Jan 3, 2014 in recent history. Apart from
thoroughbred racing, harness racing is the second best attraction for horse
lovers like me! The Big M that was opened in the year 1970 held its first
harness racing on September 1, 1976. Thoroughbred racing on the other hand was
started the following year on September 6, 1977.
January 3, 2014 - Yannick Gingras seemed to be charged up
from the cold that led his to win in 6 races on the card. “Gingras is winning
at a 23 percent clip to start the meet” – thebigm.com
With the chilly-storm pilling snow up to one foot in parts
of the city, racing enthusiast were unaffected as Meadowlands accounted an
increase in handle the same day. Hats- off!
With the racing season on full swing, I hope to catch some
real action of speed and adrenalin rush!

The Exhilarating Breeders' Cup
For many race horses, the series of horse races in the Breeders' Cup Championships is the culmination of their racing so far in that season. This two-day horse racing event comprising of 15 individual horse races is held annually at various race tracks throughout the United States aside from in 1996 where Woodbine Racetrack in Canada hosted this event.
Many of the horse races that comprise the Breeders' Cup Championships are grade 1 events; although, not all fit in this category. With purses ranging from USD 500,000 to USD 5,000,000, some of the top race horses participate in these races.
The history of the Breeder's Cup Championships has seen some records as expected. The jockey with the most wins in this series of races is held by Mike E. Smith at 17. He is in beating range of Jerry D. Bailey who has 15 wins as a jockey in the races of the Breeders' Cup Championships. Whereas, the trainer with the most wins is held by D. Wayne Lukas with 19 wins. The next closest has only 9 wins and is held by Claude R. McGaughey III. Allen E Paulson is the most winning owner with USD 8,730,000. Zenyatta is the horse with the highest winning amount in the Breeders' Cup Championships of USD 4,680,000. She is followed by Tiznow with a winning amount of USD 4,560,400. The next horse winning horse is under USD 4,000,000.
So far, there have been some horses that have shown their stamina and talent by winning two or more Breeders' Cup Championships races. In the Breeders' Cup Classic, Tiznow won the race in 2000 and 2001. The Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf was won in 2004 and 2006 by Ouija Board. Bayakoa and Royal Delta won the Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic in 1989 and 1990 and 2011 and 2012, respectively. Four horses has won the Breeders' Cup Mile two or more times. Miesque won in 1987 and 1988; Lure won in 1992 and 1993; Da Hoss won in 1996 and 1998; and Goldikova won in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Midnight Lute won the Breeders' Cup Sprint in 2007 and 2008. The Breeders' Cup Turf is shared by High Chaparral and Conduit with two wins each. High Chaparral won this race in 2002 and 2003; whereas, Conduit won this race in 2008 and 2009. As you can see with this wins of two or more Breeders' Cup Championships races, the competition is tough making for good races to watch as a spectator.
With free horse race games, you do not have to wait until the Breeders' Cup Championship to participate in the thrilling sport of horse racing. One of the premiere online 3D horse games is Horse Racing Fantasy by Horse Racing Simulation LLC at http://www.horseracegame.com. Whitney Handicap winner Cross Traffic makes Way for the Challenge in Woodward Stakes
One of the most awaited American Grade 1 Thoroughbred horse racing is the Whitney Handicap. Open to three year old over a distance of 9 furlongs, this stake race is a part of the “Win and You’re in” challenge to the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
Held last Saturday at the Saratoga Race Course, the title was lost by last year’s winner Fort Larned who placed fourth. Winning the title with a superb run was Cross Traffic, runner up Successful Dan and third Mucho Macho Man.
Saturday’s 75,000 dollars race saw the splendid run of Todd Pletcher trained and Jockey Velazquez led four year old son of Unbridled’s Song and dam Stop Traffic. Stop Traffic who is the daughter of Cure of the Blues who had won the Ballerina at the Spa. Unbridled’s Song who passed away recently July 26 was one of the leading sire.
He opened the quarter mile with 00:24.96 leading the way into the second quarter in 00:23.11 and the third in 00:22.11, bettering each quarter by almost a second Pletcher seemed satisfied with his colt’s performance.
One of the news reports I had read earlier had mentions of Pletcher “That's pretty impressive. You don't see that many sub-23 internally, especially in a dirt race.”
Complimenting too was his jockey John Velazquez; "He put himself into the race right away," he added. "Every time they turned up the pressure, he was able to turn it up another notch. It was a perfect trip, but it was a self-produced perfect trip."
This win helps Pletcher plan the colt’s race career ahead, looking to run the 60th running of the Woodward Stakes at the Saratoga Race Course on August 31 followed by the Jockey Gold Cup.
Training hard and good on the morning of Aug 3 Cross Traffic’s performance will be worth seeing on the 1 1/8 mile of dirt turf of the Woodward Stakes on August 31, especially with John Velazquez’s history in the last few years.
Some of the past winners were:
2012: To Honor and Serve, Jockey: John Velazquez
2011: Harve de Grace; Jockey: Ramon A. Dominguez
2010: Quality Road; Jockey: John Velazquez

The losses that we suffer – Monzante just like Ruffain
I was looking forward to the news release about the Mozante situation and was indeed disappointed to read about it!
The Louisiana State Racing Commission declared on the July 29 news that I read online, that they were “satisfied” with whatever was done for the race horse in order to ensure his fitness before the race. No further investigation will be done regarding the situation on July 20 at Evangeline Downs, where a champion race horse was euthanized.
Monzante who had suffered an injury to the small bones located at the back of the fetlock, a common injury among racehorses that accounts for most deaths in Thoroughbred and Quarter horses. Top vets have discovered that most fatal injuries are due to skeletal injuries which are caused due to excess training or injuries present from before.
Reading and writing about the euthenization of Monzante, it reminds me of the horrific incident of Ruffain. At the 11th running at the Belmont Park in 1975, she hit her shoulder at the gates but still continued running at the mark of 1 furlong both her sesamoid bones snapped. Jockey Jacinto Vasquez on board tried to stop her but the champion that she was; she wanted to finish the race. This led to massive injuries which were then followed by an emergency operation. Even though that was successful, she woke up from her anesthesia and struggled as if still running the race, suffering from multiple injuries she was euthanized by the medical team present.
The horrific incidents that take place seem to be common to trainers and vets who deal with the real situation. However, it becomes difficult for fans to understand the same and react accordingly. The industry faces losses on a regular, but the great names are soon forgotten!
My disappointment leads me to the only resort, where I am able to race deceased race horse legends and keep them living in the fantasy world of horse racing, commemorating and honoring the evergreen champions.

The Monzante misfortune!
I could not help but write about Monzante, a grade 1 winner who was euthanized after being sent to his barn following to the injury at the claiming race at Evangeline Downs in the morning of July 20. The controversy starts when in an article I read that he was declared “salvageable” by the veterinarians, but still euthanized by trainer Jackie Thacker. Louisiana Racing Commission is investigating the situation at hand. Thacker, who was charged with 6 animal cruelty charges in 1990, claims that the charges were dropped when the investigators found that the horses shipped to him were previously in poor conditions.
During the race, Jockey Carlos Lozada had pulled him off the run at the eighth pole, where state vet had braced the horse’s injured leg and directed him to head back to the barn. The question arises here, when the state vet had declared him salvageable, why then did Thacker along with personal vet decide to euthanize him?
On being asked, Thacker said to Daily Racing Form; “I didn’t want to see him suffer anymore.”
Charles Gardiner, the LSRC executive director said today to bloodhorse "This horse was examined and jogged the morning of the race and was pronounced sound, because he had a history of being on the vets' list before, he was brought behind the gate, and palpated and examined and jogged again. In consultation with the rider, it was verified that the rider thought the horse felt good and was enthusiastic about his chances to compete.”
With such a strong verdict it was surprising to see jockey Lozada pull back Monzante from the race! While Jackie Thacker seems to be avoiding calls from officials, I hope that the regulatory board will take strict action against the guilty solving the doubt about Monzante’s state.

The Racing Fiasco – The Royal Ascot
As a regular follower of horse racing events, it fills me with immense pride to talk about the Royal Ascot. With the races ending just last week, this English racecourse is located in a small town of Ascot, Berkshire. Hosting around twenty – six races around the year, the Ascot race course has a combination of Flat meets and Jump racing. The prime focus is however on The Gold Cup, which is held in June and is called The Royal Meeting. Following to this is the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes in the month of July.
The racing event The Royal Ascot is closely associated with the Royal Family, and the Queen is seen to witness the great races and even cheer for her favorite!
Founded in 1711 by Queen Anne, this race course was closed for a long period of twenty months in the year 2004 for redevelopment. It was re-opened by Queen Elizabeth on June 20, 2006.
Being a truly royal event; members at the Royal Enclosure are restricted to a certain dress code. For women, hats with a day dress and for men; morning suits- black or grey with a top hat is strictly enforced upon!
Even though this royal event intrigues me to the utmost, to maintain such discipline at a racing event is beyond my personal understanding. With the passion of horse racing raging in me, limitation to attend a horse racing event does not hold me back in satisfying my hunger for this unpredictable game!
Online horse racing games available online, is an unlimited world were racing any race horse at any of the top stakes is possible. Horse racing fantasy ensures a superb graphic representation of the real horse racing events happening around the world, with no limitations and unlimited opportunities to be a jockey, a trainer or a breeder with a stable of champion horses racing against the best is definitely an experience in its self!

Affirmed!
One of my all time favorite is Affirmed, fouled February 21, 1975 by sire Exclusive Native and dam Won’t Tell You. Laz Barrera trained; this stallion was the eleventh winner of The Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing.
Known of his rivalry with one of the finest; Alydar and Affirmed were face-to-face with each other in ten such stake races since 1977 including The Triple Crown. This rivalry set off at Belmont Park at the Youth Stakes where Affirmed was the winner followed by Alyder at fourth place.
This Florida bred race horse was the first thoroughbred to have got home tremendous success for Louis Wolfson and his wife as owners. Affirmed made his career debut on May 24, 1977 at Belmont Park winning by 4-1/2 lengths, two weeks after that he won the Youth Stakes with a neck-to-neck run with Alydar. Fans were kept at the peak of their curiosity, waiting for the results of the following 10 races where these two were seen in face off.
After a four-year-old career he was sent back to California to retire as one of the most glorified race horses in the history of horse racing by becoming Thoroughbred racing’s first 2 million dollar runner!
Deceased on January 21, 2001; this stallion remains a legend even today!
However, the deceased word does not exist in the world that I come from! Here in my world of horse racing the legends never fall and fade away. Virtual horse racing keeps such legends alive. Here you can select your own horse past or present and watch them in an enthralling race of the decade. Being a gaming freak, I spend hours and hours simulating my horses and racing them against the best of the best.
Old is Gold ~ Churchill Downs
Marking its way through history, Churchill Downs Incorporated is one of the most prestigious and elite horse race tracks this industry has seen. 3D horse racing simulation makes it possible for you to race your horse at the best tracks around the world.
Being passionate about horse racing, I read anything and everything that has the word ‘Horse’ in it. Recently while reading an article about Kentucky Derby, my need to write a Blog on the same arose. Needless to say that HorseRaceGame had already thought about their players and included Churchill Downs as one of the race tracks that you could choose to race on, virtually. The 3D effect gives you a complete real life view of this glorified race track.
One of the most prestigious and my personal favorite race track is Churchill Downs. This track has seen some of the best race horses in the history of horse racing. Officially being opened in the year 1875, it began its journey to become the “Home of Kentucky Derby”. In 1872 Col. M. Lewis Clark had devised the idea of a Louisville Jockey Club, in order to organize race meets following to which a race track was developed, which eventually became Churchill Downs.
May 17, 1875 saw the dawn of Churchill Downs, where four races were scheduled. The first winner at this track was Bonaventure. However, Aristides was the winner of the Kentucky Derby. The following years were financially tough and a new Louisville Jockey Club was incorporated along with a change in the management. By the year 1903 Churchill Downs had started counting profits again. Kentucky Jockey Club was formed in February 1919 as a holding company for Churchill and three other tracks in the State: Latonia in the north, Lexington in the Bluegrass Region, and Douglas Park and Churchill Downs in Louisville.
Churchill Downs can be termed as one of the oldest race tracks, marking their way through history. This race track has accounted for a number of achievements in the horse racing industry.
